Artist Commissioning Brief
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the traditional owners, whose country includes the Robinvale region and would also like to extend our respect to their Elders, both past and present.
Through a joint $2 million investment between Council and the State Government, Ngiwa Kulaithi Play Precinct will transform an under-utilised area into a contemporary, vibrant community space.
It is very important to acknowledge and celebrate the involvement of Murray Valley Aboriginal Co-operative, Munatunga Elders Aboriginal Corporation, Tati Tati Land and Water Indigenous Corporation, Dadi Dadi Weki Weki Aboriginal Corporation and First Peoples – State Relations who were all part of the Cultural Heritage Management Plan workshops for the playground and skatepark site. The Wamba Wamba, Waddi Waddi, Tatti Tatti, Barapa Barapa , and Latji Latji Peoples are the original custodians of the lands that are part of the Swan Hill Municipality. We acknowledge and pay respects to nations who adjoin this country. Our region stretching from Robinvale to Lake Boga remains strong in First Nations cultural heritage values.
About the project
Council is excited to explore the opportunity to celebrate local First Nation’s culture in the form of artwork showcased in the Ngiwa Kulaithi skate park and playground development. The playground is to be constructed next to the skate park and will transform the park into an exciting, space for the entire community to enjoy. The playground will be an iconic, central space for creativity, culture and play.
Council will commission up to three artists to develop a design/artwork that will be incorporated into the theme and elements of the playground. It is highly desirable this work will be created by a First Nations artist from the Robinvale region.
Expressions of interest
Artists should express their interest by providing an example of their work. The artwork can be work that is already established and that the artist is willing to have reproduced across different mediums; ie: laser cuts, sign writing, and on elements of the skate park (side of ramps) and imposed onto the play ground equipment. An emphasis on plants and animals is encouraged.
Examples of artwork include;
- Photographs or samples of actual work
- A power point presentation
- Any other means of displaying samples of art work
Artists are also invited to share career highlights, and other experiences.
