We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Pental Island and the Swan Hill region. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community and pay respect to Elders past and present.
Background
Swan Hill Rural City Council is currently investigating the replacement of the bridge that once connected Pioneer Settlement and Pental Island.
This vital link was closed following devastating floods in 2011 and is no longer deemed safe for public access.
The bridge is the first step towards a proposed new and inclusive cultural space on Pental Island. We are excited to be reconnecting the community to this important and beautiful space.
Council will investigate all opportunities to re-purpose timber and elements from the old Pental Island Bridge structure.
This project is 90% funded and being delivered in partnership with the Federal Governments Growing Regions Fund.
