Waste Management Strategy 2024 – 2034

The waste management sector is changing as a result of government efforts to tackle unsustainable practices and transition to a circular economy. To align with these changes, Council is drafting a Waste Management Strategy to guide waste and recovery services over the next ten years. By embracing a circular economy which prioritises waste prevention and follows the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle, we can ease financial and environmental burdens on the community. This approach also minimises harmful legacies left behind for future generations.

How can you be involved?

Your contribution is essential to Council’s objective of providing sustainable services that meet the needs and expectations of the community.

The project timeline summarises the opportunities for community involvement in the drafting of the Waste Management Strategy.

Stakeholder interviews commenced in April 2024 inviting community groups to provide feedback on current and future waste management services.

A draft strategy will then be released for the wider community to provide in-person and online feedback.

What can you do in the meantime?

Council is seeking to improve its waste education program and is inviting residents to participate in a quiz to determine their waste sorting knowledge. Your responses will help us prioritise key areas in our education program.
